The Madison Township Fire Department was organized in July of 1971. Initially the department was housed at 340 Ashland Rd., which was shared with the Road Department. The first Fire Chief was Harold Pritchett.
1972: The current Central Fire Station (843 Expressview Dr.) was opened. The building has previously served as a vending company. That same year Station 72 (801 Belmont Ave.) was built. Chief Phil Ackerman was named Full Tim Chief.
1970’s: The first Jaws of Life was placed into service, Emergency Medical Services was started.
1980’s brought growth: hiring of the first full-time firefighters. Assistant Chief Evans and Captain John Pate graduated Paramedic School to provide Advanced Life Support to Madison TWP and surrounding areas. Both Stations became staffed 24/7.
1990’s to today: As incident volumes increased, so did staffing. Today we are staffed with Six Firefighter / Paramedics 24 hours a day 7 days a week, the fire Chief and one administrative assistant.
2020: In the year 2020 we answered over 2500 calls for service.
